Ready to Adopt?

If you are interested in adopting a TIP mustang from Red Gate Farm, here's what you need to do:

  1. Ensure your facilities meet BLM requirements, which you can find HERE.
  2. Contact us to let us know you are interested. We like to talk to potential adopters, to help ensure the horse is a good fit for your needs. If you live locally, we invite you set up an appointment to come and observe or possibly even work with the horse you are interested in before committing. Please approve your trailer style/design with us prior to adopting, as some horses will require more security than others.
  3. Submit your APPLICATION to your local BLM office, then sign the adoption agreement and pay the fee when they contact you. We recommend you print the online application, fill it out, take a photo, and then email it to the eastern states office.
  4. Now the waiting game begins! We recommend you contact the BLM office soon after submission to ensure they received your application. The BLM office we work with takes an average of 3 weeks to process our adoptions. We have had them go as quickly as 3 hours, and take as long as 9 weeks. Feel free to contact them to check on your status.
  5. Once you (and we) receive word that your adoption is completed, you contact us to schedule pickup or delivery of your horse within 5 days. Unless other arrangements are made, you will pay an additional boarding/training fee of $25/day after the 5 day period. As a side note, we can usually deliver for $2.50/loaded mile (one way) from Creal Springs, IL. Any required accomodation fees will also be added to your estimate. CONGRATULATIONS!
  6. You are now the proud owner of a true Living Legend!! If the horse is under Sale Authority, you will receive a Bill of Sale from the BLM. If it is under the adoption program, you will receive title after one year.

For more information, please see the BLM adoption page or the MHF TIP adoption page.

****Please Note!****

All applications and adoption approvals are processed on a first-come, first-served basis through the Bureau of Land Management office. Our part as TIP trainers here at Red Gate Farm, LLC is to gentle the horses, help guide you through the adoption process as needed, and load the horse for you to take home. We have no control over the processing of applications, and cannot hold a particular animal for you until an application has been submitted.

While we do our best to select and offer only sound and healthy horses, these horses have only had very basic vet checks during their time in holding. They will have updated vaccinations and a current negative coggins. Horses determined to have major health or soundness issues are not generally made available for adoption, unless noted. While we certainly offer full disclosure on any health concerns we may have regarding a horse, we cannot offer any health guarantees, however, we are more than happy to work with you to have your vet (or our local one) perform a pre-purchase exam at your expense. Just be aware that the thoroughness of the exam will be determined by the individual horse's level of gentling. We certainly want you to feel comfortable with your adoption! Feel free to contact us with any questions!
