Wouldn’t you love to sit down and enjoy a slice of fresh, hot, homemade bread, complete with your favorite spread or topping, or perhaps a delicious, homemade, from-scratch sweet bread or cookie? Do you enjoy experiencing new flavors and textures? Do you ever wish you could sample all the baked goods at the local bakery, just for fun? Or, do you wish you could enjoy baked goods that actually have raw, natural ingredients, rich flavors, pure textures, and less sugars than conventional baked items?
This year, we are offering a great opportunity to satisfy your bread and sweets cravings in the form of a CSA Baked Goods Share, and you are invited to join! If you already purchase products from our farm, this share offers you the option of creating more of a one-stop-shopping experience when you visit our farm.
How Does It Work?
The Baked Goods Share runs for 22 weeks, from May to October, with pickups scheduled every week during that time, for a total of 22 pickups. Bread rotates weeks with our pastry items, so you can participate in both for one price! Each Bread Share week, you will receive a full-size loaf of bread (roughly 1.5-2 lbs of wet dough) for every share purchased. Each Pastry week, you will receive enough baked goods to serve 1-2 people comfortably, for every share purchased. This equates to roughly 10-12 cookies, 6-12 pastries, half-dozen muffins, etc. Numbers vary based on the item baked, but always enough. If you need more bread or sweets, either to feed a larger family, or simply to make it last longer, just purchase an additional share!
What Kind of Bread Will I Receive?
Every week varies, based on the baker’s desire that week! Common selections of breads include Boule’, Challa, White Bread, French Bread, Asiago Cheese Bread, 9-Grain, and many others! Some will be standard sandwich-loaf breads, while others will be hand-shaped, braided, or rolled artisan breads. Pastry week selections will include Cookies, Sweet Breads, Cinnamon Rolls, Mini-Cakes, and many others! With all the choices available, you will rarely, if ever, see the same variety twice!
What Kind of Ingredients Are Used?
All of our ingredients are either grown here on our farm, or purchased from one of our reputable certified-organic foods suppliers. Our bread flour is either purchased as organic, whole grain, ground flour, or organic berries we mill here in our own home! Due to the fact that we use mostly whole-grain flours, you will likely find many of our breads are denser and more crumbly than the conventional breads you may be accustomed to. Most of our breads are yeast breads and may not be suitable for anyone with gluten intolerance. For our baked sweets, we use pure ingredients such as butter, coconut oil, or pure lard (from our own heritage hogs!), so you will likely find many of our treats are somewhat denser than the conventional, shortening-laden treats you may be accustomed to. Many of our treats use an aluminum-free baking powder, and because they also may contain whole-grain wheat flour, they may not be suitable for anyone with gluten intolerance. Further, they may contain or be prepared in an area containing common allergens such as milk, nuts, and wheat.
What If I Don’t Like the Items?
More likely, you’ll wish you had purchased additional shares! Nonetheless, we understand that not everyone has the same taste in breads and sweets. Due to the fact that we plan the season’s baking and purchase supplies based on early season orders, we cannot offer refunds. However, if we (or you) can find another customer to purchase the remainder of your share time, we will refund you a pro-rated amount. You could also consider donating the remainder of your share to a friend.
How Much Does it Cost?
Each Share costs $140. That breaks down to about $6.36 per week, including tax. This amount is intended to feed 1-2 people as snacks or sides to a meal. If you are the type to enjoy seconds, or have a larger family, then you may want to consider purchasing multiple shares.
After you decide how many Shares you want to purchase, you will submit the minimum $25 deposit with your order form. You can pay the entire cost at once, or pay in monthly installments that work best for you. Either way, the entire cost must be pre-paid prior to May 1.
