We raise a selection of heritage breed turkeys and/or giant whites.
We receive our heritage turkeys as 1-2 day old poults from a commercial hatchery, and our Giant White poults from a local hatchery, and raise them in our safe, warm brooder for the first 2-3 weeks. When the weather is good, we move them out to our outdoor brooder pen, where they can learn to roost and forage in a safe environment. When old enough, we move them to our portable pasture turkey pen.
This turkey pen is a large area of pasture, fenced with temporary electric netting, where the turkeys can roam, chase bugs, get plenty of sunshine, eat grass and other forage, and generally act like the beautiful creatures God designed turkeys to be. The pen also contains a portable shelter for night time roosting and to give the birds cover in bad weather. This whole pen is moved periodically, to give the turkeys fresh pasture and bugs, spread their droppings, reduce parasites, give the birds fresh and clean outside lounge areas, and to generally keep the pasture and birds healthy.
The Giant Whites are harvested at roughly 14-16 weeks old, and the heritage breeds at roughly 30 weeks. The birds are harvested right here on the farm, eliminating any transport stress.
