We became interested in goats when we first began our homesteading journey. We lived in the high plains of Colorado at the time, and had to hay year round. Goats were more economical than dairy cows, so we bought our first goats. Over the next couple of years, we tried several different breeds, including Nubian, Boer, Lamancha, Kinder and several cross-breeds, eventually falling in love with the American Alpine goat.
As our little herd grew, we began focusing our efforts on selectively breeding a very high-quality, ADGA registered Alpine that is hardy, low maintenance, settles and kids easily with multiple kids, has long lactation periods, produces large quantities of milk, with good butterfat levels, no off flavors, and does it on minimal grain or supplements. The blood lines we selected for our goats excel in both the show ring and in milk production. While we may never reach perfection, we are getting closer each year.
Our goats are not only used for milk, cheese, yogurt, meat, and more for our family, we also use their milk to supplement our pigs and poultry. In addition, they are housed in temporary paddocks in our timberland, where they spend their days clearing invasive honeysuckle, briars, poison ivy, and other brush. With their efforts, we are working hard to gradually improve our land and return it to the lush savannah it was long ago.
Unfortunately, we no longer offer raw goat milk for sale, due to new regulations passed in 2017.
