TIP Adoption

Ready to Adopt?

If you are interested in adopting a TIP mustang from Red Gate Farm, here's what you need to do:

  1. Ensure your facilities meet BLM requirements, which you can find HERE.
  2. Contact us to let us know you are interested.  We like to talk to potential adopters, to help ensure the horse is a good fit for your needs and available for adoption. If you live locally, we invite you set up an appointment to come and observe or possibly even work with the horse you are interested in before committing.
  3. Submit your APPLICATION to your local BLM office. If you are planning to get a gentled horse from a TIP trainer, you will need to make a note of that on your application to qualify for the 5' fencing requirement (if applicable).  Ungentled horses MUST have minimum 6 foot fences!
  4. Once your application is approved, if the horse is ready to be released from our training program, you will send the final paperwork and horse information (which we provide), and a check for $125 to the BLM.
  5. Once you receive word that your information is accepted, you contact us to schedule pickup or delivery of your horse within 5 days.  Unless other arrangements are made, you will pay an additional boarding/training fee of $25/day after the 5 day period.  We can usually deliver for $2/loaded mile from Petersburg, IL.  Please approve your trailer style/design with us prior to adopting, as some horses will require more security than others.
  6. CONGRATULATIONS! You are now the proud owner of a true Living Legend!!  If the horse is under Sale Authority, you will receive a Bill of Sale from the BLM.  If it is under the adoption program, you will receive title after one year.

For more information, please see the BLM adoption page or the MHF TIP adoption page.

****PLEASE NOTE!****

All applications and adoption approvals are processed on a first-come, first-served basis through the Bureau of Land Management office.  Our part as TIP trainers here at Red Gate Farm, LLC is to gentle the horses, help guide you through the adoption process as needed, and load the horse for you to take home.  We have no control over the processing of applications, and cannot hold a particular animal for you if the BLM has already approved an adopter.  As a general rule, the BLM processes applications on a first come, first served basis, and typically you will receive a response within 1-2 business days if you apply electronically.  Feel free to contact us with any questions!
